I began working with Eunice James in August 2007 and, with her help, have had great success. I recently came across a paper listing the goals I set for myself when I began working out with Eunice nearly 6 years ago and realized that I had achieved every one of them: My chronic lower back problems have disappeared and my lumbar spine is strong and stable; I am stronger—especially in my upper body, more flexible and have great balance; I am toned and fit and feel great. And it shows in the numbers. I have lost (and kept off) 22 pounds; my blood pressure is 120/80 (and often below that); my bone density has improved to the point that I am no longer on the brink of osteoporosis. At 61 I look and feel better than I did at 45. But most important I have accomplished all this steadily, safely and with a new sense of joy in physical activity. Eunice gave me the structure, the support and the self-confidence to stick with a regular workout program. Since the beginning she has listened carefully, paid attention to where I am on any given day, and customized every regimen to meet my needs and goals. I could not have done this without her.

I am a 64-year-old male who has been lifting wieghts for 50 years. Somewhere in my mid- to late-50s I seemed to lose my interest and motivation in keeping myself in shape. I decided I needed some help, and had heard some good things about Eunice James on Pleasant Street. I first went to Eunice in 2004 and here I am 5 years later!!
I had always been skeptical of trainers, watching them do more talking with their clients at the gym, than working them. Trust me, that is not an issue with Eunice. We have a great relationship, and have a good dialogue, but it does not interfere with my workout.
What I really like is the variety that Eunice offers. She is always going to seminars to learn about the latest and greatest techniques. Sometimes we don’t even touch the weights, but still have a great workout.
If you want to get in shape, but are struggling to do it alone, give Eunice a try. You won’t be disappointed.

I have been working with Eunice since last spring. I came to her at the recommendation of a friend, needing to improve my health and hoping to lose some weight. Having been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome 3 years ago, I have some special considerations in my workouts.
Eunice was somewhat familiar with Fibromyalgia, but once we were working together, she “went to school” on the condition and became acquainted with the potential and limitations I might have. As a result, I have improved my strength and flexibility without any ill effects. I have lost 20 pounds and am feeling much better.
Eunice’s gym is outfitted with state of the art equipment. Eunice selects equipment with an eye to getting maximum results, working the whole body, or several body parts with each exercise. Her 20 years of experience in fitness training is evident in her repertoire of exercises. Any time I am unable to perform an exercise, Eunice has an alternate at the ready.
Eunice does an excellent job of motivating. She has encouraged me to do things I would never have thought I could do. She “changes up” the routines to keep things fun and interesting. She is a stickler for form and safety too. This is important since it is easy to be injured while doing weight training.
I expect to continue my workouts with Eunice, appreciating my new lifestyle.

I have been coming to Eunice twice a week since 1998. At first, I had weight to lose. I’d spent the last 2 years caring for 93-year-old parents before their deaths. They were not very active, and neither was I. Eunice is an innovator, a stimulator. She likes what she does, and she almost makes you like moving, as well. I found myself walking 30 minutes every morning and then doing the stretches she taught me afterwards. I strengthened my muscles in her studio twice a week and then found myself getting the the things done in my life that needed doing. Now, I’m only at a loss for what to say when someone says, “But, you don’t look 78.” I smile, think of Eunice, and try to look something like “wise.”

Over time, Eunice’s dedication went well beyond the client-teacher relationship. When my husband’s struggles with Alzheimer’s made it difficult for him to pursue a studio program, she made the one-hour-plus round trip to our home for several months to encourage and support him.

Eunice has been an important motivating force in my sustained commitment to living healthier and happier. And, keeping me focused for over 5 years has been no easy task! She does it through innovation, mixing it up, tailoring workouts for my foolishly busy schedule, and helping me to truly “see” the connection between everything I do in her studio and how it impacts my body. I’m hesitant to use the words “personal trainer” to describe a true fitness professional who is a coach, teacher, teammate, cheerleader, and friend.
